Claire Danes Pregnant: Caption This Photo

Baby number one is on the way for Claire Danes and her hubby Hugh Darcy. In light of the news that Claire is preggers she has been chosen as Right Celebrity?s Caption This photo contest for the week, woohoo! News that the Homeland star was with child was revealed on the July 4th holiday. People.com was the first to report the story, which I will dish all about with you in one hot second. However before I get into that I want to tell you about our Caption This photo contest, it is so easy. Dynamo draw with Fire, remain unbeaten at home

HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Dynamo remained unbeaten at home with a 0-0 draw against the Chicago Fire on Tuesday night

The Dynamo (6-5-6) recorded two shots on goal and moved to 4-0-3 in their new downtown stadium, BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston played without star midfielder Geoff Cameron, who was a late scratch with a left hamstring injury.

Tally Hall stopped the Fire's lone shot on goal in the first half, and helped snap Chicago's season-high winning streak at three matches. Houston had more scoring chances in the game and missed an opportunity to pull within a single point of Chicago (8-5-4) in the Eastern Conference.

In the 76th minute, Brad Davis had a chance to win it for the Dynamo, but his shot from the left side of the box was blocked.

The Fire nearly opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Hall stopped Marco Pappa's left-footed shot from just outside the box.

The Dynamo are 4-2-3 since losing back-to-back games on April 28 and May 9. That was Houston's only two-game losing streak of the season.

The Fire recorded their first draw since a scoreless tie against Real Salt Lake on May 9.

Diablotek Abyss

There's been a heartening renaissance with budget PC cases in recent years. As models like the Thermaltake Dokker ?and the NZXT H2 ?have shown, it's possible for companies to include big features and deliver good build experiences, but still maintain a sub-$100 price. Unfortunately, these advancements are not universal. With its Abyss ($64.99 list), Diablotek demonstrates that it's possible to get the broadest strokes correct but drop the ball on practically everything else. The result is a case that fulfills its basic task, but does so with little finesse.

The Abyss' best quality is, in fact, its outward flair. The 17.2-by-8.3-by-20-inch (HWD) case is fashioned mostly of white steel, with three significant exceptions: the white plastic front panel, the black mesh ornamentation on that panel (specifically, the covers over the drive bays and the 120mm intake fan); and the windowed side panel. It's not necessarily an adventurous look, but plenty of clever angles (the fan grille resembles a star, for example), unexpected lines, and vent-shaped depressions help the Abyss project a healthy sci-fi vibe that makes it appear more expensive than it actually is. Two grommeted holes in the rear panel (where there's also a single 120mm exhaust fan) for routing liquid cooling piping also suggested latent gaming PC potential.

Open up the Abyss and you'll see what, at first glance, looks like a typically well-appointed interior (which, for the record, is primarily white as well). Two filtered vents in the floor (including one in the power supply bay) aid with passive cooling, and a large hole cut into motherboard tray's upper-left section facilitates adding an aftermarket CPU cooler, but there aren't that many additional holes for routing cables. Whereas Thermaltake and NZXT have lately begun giving you plenty of these, only four are accessible after you install an ATX motherboard on the Abyss: One, located near the bottom, is decently wide, but three others on the side are narrow and may make it difficult to send cables and wires where you want them. (If you're installing a microATX or Mini ITX motherboard, you will have two more options, but they're even smaller.) And, aside from the channel those holes delineate, you'll find almost no room below the motherboard for stashing cables.

You do have a generous amount of space (slightly more than 1.5 inches) between the motherboard's interior edge and the start of the drive well, though some of this will be compromised when you add 3.5-inch drives (the intake fan keeps them from sliding all the way in). But there's only one-eighth inch between the bottom of the motherboard and the top of the power supply?cramped quarters for connecting cables to headers or hooking up front-panel wires. Space is a problem from another standpoint, too: Although there's technically room to install an oversized video card like the AMD Radeon HD 6990 , the case's interior design makes it impossible to do so in the most likely location of the first accessible PCI Express (PCIe) x16 slot, so even the attempt is pointless. It looks like it should work, but it doesn't quite.

That's true of numerous other elements, too. Eight of the drive bays (the four 5.25-inch external bays and the four 3.5-inch internal bays) use tool-free retention brackets to hold the drives in place, but having one on each side inconveniently forces you to open both side panels rather than just the main one to secure the components. The remaining two bays (one external 3.5-inch and the bottom-most internal 3.5-inch) require screws to keep the drives in place. And if you want to install a 2.5-inch drive but you don't have a 3.5-inch adapter, forget it: There's no place to even just screw in smaller drives.

The seven expansion slots are also not tool-free. The spacers are attached and pop out easily, but installing a card requires screwing it in?and, if you change your configuration later and want to replace one or more spacers, you can't even do that. This obviously saves money, but it's a poor solution; the inexpensive ($59.99 list) MSI Raptor's external bracket, which haphazardly clamped down its loose spacers, wasn't an ideal solution, but it was better (though it also required a screwdriver).

Wackier still are two other characteristics of the drive well and one of the front-panel ports. The fourth 5.25-inch bay is blocked by a mount for installing a second intake fan; there's simply no way to install an optical drive in it (though it might be able to house a smaller device of some kind), leaving one wondering why there's a bay there at all. Even stranger is the black plastic panel at the rear of the 3.5-inch bay section. Printed with the words "Remove for long card," it's precariously positioned between the second and third bays, but provided no discernible function as it doesn't block anything near even the longest cards. If you remove it, not only do you gain no appreciable component space, but you also subject yourself to the mother of all migraines trying to get back in its original position. (It took us?no exaggeration?ten minutes to properly align everything again.) And regarding the front-panel ports, it's nice to have two USB 3.0 ports accompanying the headphone and microphone jacks, but why is there a slot (even bracketed over) to accommodate an SD card reader when no reader is included?

Things like this don't identify the Diablotek Abyss as a serious case for serious builders. As it is, it will suffice provided your needs aren't extensive or your expectations high. But more satisfying cases are out there, for not much more money, in the aforementioned Thermaltake Dokker and NZXT H2. And even the MSI Raptor, which will save you a few dollars more, is less frustrating to build in. Diablotek's case may be a looker, but, as always, the devil is in the details, and that's where the Abyss derails.

JCSU set to name new women's basketball coach

Johnson C. Smith University officials are set to name a new head women?s basketball coach on Thursday, July 5.

Vanessa Taylor, the winningest women?s basketball coach in JCSU?s history, announced in April that she would leave the Charlotte school to coach the women?s team at North Carolina Central University in Durham.

In 11 seasons at JCSU, Taylor compiled a 215-112 record and was three times named CIAA coach of the year. Her last day at JCSU was May 31.

JCSU President Ronald Carter and Athletics Director Stephen Joyner Sr. will announce the school?s sixth head women?s basketball coach at a 2 p.m. press conference.

HIV tests offered at pharmacies under pilot initiative

The US Centers for Disease Control is considering the value of offering HIV tests at US pharmacies, to accelerate identification and treatment of Americans who don't know they are infected with the virus.

Some 1.1 million people in the US carry HIV, but an estimated 200,000 of them are unaware. The earlier these carriers are identified, the sooner they can begin receiving treatment that prevents their condition from progressing to AIDS ? and the fewer people they will infect unintentionally. At the moment, one-third of those with HIV are diagnosed so late that they develop AIDS within a year.

"People knowing their HIV status is empowering," says Paul Weidle of the CDC in Atlanta, Georgia, head of the two-year pilot project to offer testing in 12 rural and 12 urban regions with abnormally high burdens of HIV. "If they're negative, that's reassuring in itself, and if they're positive the treatments available are very effective, and they can take steps to avoid infecting others," he says.

The CDC first introduced routine testing in 2006, but mainly in the context of hospital and family doctor visits. Making the tests available in pharmacies and retail clinics would massively broaden availability because millions of people visit them weekly, and 30 per cent live within a 10-minute drive of a retail clinic.

Another goal of making testing more available is to limit the stigma of being HIV-positive. "Our goal is to make HIV testing as routine as a blood pressure check," says Weidle.

Once the pilot finishes, Weidle and his colleagues aim to develop HIV testing "toolkits" that could rapidly be made available to any pharmacies or retail clinics on request.

In May, the US Food and Drug Administration opened a new front against the disease by recommending that antiviral drugs be offered to people who don't carry HIV but are at risk of infection, perhaps due to their lifestyle or because their partners are infected.

The move is symptomatic of a global shift towards prevention. As part of that, the WHO is also keen for tests to be offered more widely elsewhere in the world.

WIMBLEDON, England (AP) ? All at once, there was a frenzy of activity at a wet and windy All England Club early Monday afternoon.

Top-seeded and 2004 Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova, a big hitter in her own right, was overpowered in a 6-4, 6-3 loss to No. 15 Sabine Lisicki. Four-time title winner Serena Williams was locked in a three-set tussle against a wild-card entry from Kazakhstan who is ranked 65th but is responsible for the only perfect set in women's professional tennis. Defending champion Petra Kvitova was trying to come back after dropping her opening set.

Oh, and over on Centre Court, there was the not-so-insignificant matter of 16-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer's medical timeout to get treatment for his aching back.

The start of Week 2 at Wimbledon has been dubbed "Manic Monday," because it's the only major tournament that schedules all 16 fourth-round singles matches on one day.

Sure lived up to that moniker this year, even if rain prevented five of the eight men's matches from finishing.

The most newsworthy result was the abrupt end of Sharapova's bid to become the first woman since Williams in 2002 to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year. Less than a month after completing a career Grand Slam in Paris to return to No. 1, Sharapova bowed out against someone she had beaten the three other times they met. She will be replaced atop the rankings next week.

"Nothing is easy. Certainly not a Wimbledon title," Sharapova said. "So I don't know if it's easier or tougher now than it was years ago, but I don't think it's ever easier."

Federer, seeking a seventh trophy at the grass-court Grand Slam, beat Xavier Malisse 7-6 (1), 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 to reach a 33rd consecutive major quarterfinal, adding to his record. After the seventh game, Federer got help from a trainer for his back. When he returned, his play didn't appear to suffer all that much, other than slower-than-usual serves. On the other hand, Federer capped the match with a 122 mph ace.

"Honestly, I'm not too worried. I've had bad backs over the years. I've been around. They go as quick as they came," he said. "But of course I have to keep an eye on it now."

Federer now faces No. 26 Mikhail Youzhny, a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-5 winner over Denis Istomin. Federer is 13-0 against Youzhny, who chose to look on the bright side, saying: "I have one more chance."

The only other man assured a spot in Wednesday's quarterfinals is No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The defending champion improved to 12-1 against Viktor Troicki, his doubles partner for Serbia at the upcoming London Olympics, by winning 6-3, 6-1, 6-3 under the Centre Court roof.

"Weather is always an obstacle here," Djokovic said.

Two men's matches never started, and three were suspended: No. 4 Andy Murray leads No. 16 Marin Cilic by a set and a break; No. 10 Mardy Fish took the first set against No. 5 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and they're tied 1-all in the second; No. 31 Florian Mayer leads No. 18 Richard Gasquet 6-3, 2-1.

The women's quarterfinals are set for Tuesday: No. 6 Williams vs. No. 4 Kvitova, who came back to beat No. 24 Francesca Schiavone of Italy 4-6, 7-5, 6-1; Lisicki vs. No. 8 Angelique Kerber, who ended the soon-to-retire Kim Clijsters' last Wimbledon 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 Victoria Azarenka vs. Tamira Paszek; and No. 3 Agnieszka Radwanska vs. No. 17 Maria Kirilenko.

Azarenka, the Australian Open champion, has lost only 14 games so far. The most interesting aspect of her 6-1, 6-0 win over 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic? The pigeon feathers that slowly floated down to the grass after a bird collided with the roof.

"Sometimes it can be annoying when somebody is chewing chips right when you're serving. Doesn't really matter; you just have to stay focused on your game. Whatever is going on around is going on around. It's out of your hands," Azarenka said. "But the feathers? It was fun."

Lisicki certainly had a grand ol' time against Sharapova, smiling all the while.

She used flat, powerful groundstrokes to neutralize Sharapova from the baseline. She also served bigger than Sharapova, reaching 118 mph and collecting six aces. A second-serve winner at 117 mph earned Lisicki's third match point, which she converted with a second-serve ace at 108 mph, then dropped to her knees and shook her fists while Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki cheered from her Court 1 guest box. (Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls running-mate Scottie Pippen was at Williams' match on Court 2.)

"That's my game, to serve well and be aggressive. That's what I did. I think it worked well," Lisicki said. "As soon as I got the break in the second set, I knew, 'I'm going to take it home.'"

Lisicki missed seven months in 2010 because of a left ankle injury ? she's described what she went through as having "to learn how to walk again" ? and dropped out of the top 200. After twisting that ankle in April, Lisicki withdrew from two tournaments and then lost her opening matches at four consecutive events, including the French Open.

But she clearly has taken a liking to the All England Club, having reached the semifinals last year, when she lost to Sharapova.

Despite their history, Sharapova referred to Lisicki as "the girl I played today," rather than by name. Sort of the way Williams' father talked about Yaroslava Shvedova, who gave the 13-time major champion all she could handle over the last two sets before losing 6-1, 2-6, 7-5.

"Whatever her name is, her feet were moving very well," Richard Williams said. "Serena's feet weren't moving."

"Looked like Serena's just not playing. She's not moving forward. Standing still. Getting caught on her back heels too much," he said. "Looked like if the girl took the ball early, she won the point."

In the third round, Shvedova won every single point ? 24 of 24 ? in the first set against French Open runner-up Sara Errani, the first "golden set" by a woman in the 44-year Open era.

When Williams began Monday's match by sailing her first groundstroke, a backhand, long to trail love-15, did that perfect set by Shvedova cross her mind?

"I was worried about it," Williams joked. "I just said, 'Serena, just get a point in this set and try to figure it out.' I definitely thought about it."

Quickly, the question became not whether Williams would win a point ? OK, everyone knew that answer beforehand ? but whether Shvedova would win a game. Call it a "Serena Set": She won 16 of 19 points in one stretch and went ahead 5-0.

But from 2-all in the second, Shvedova began hitting backhand winners at will, serving better and returning well, too, reeling off five games in a row. After the second set ended on a forehand into the net by Williams, she earned a warning from the chair umpire for racket abuse.

Williams already was pushed to a 9-7 third set in the third round, then trailed Shvedova 5-4 in the third. But with her father yelling encouragement from the stands, Williams took the final three games.

They played through drizzles that left Shvedova's prescription glasses tough to see through, so she removed them. And at 5-5, she double-faulted twice in a row to set up break point, then missed a backhand wide. But Shvedova insisted her mistakes had nothing to do with her vision.

"It's just I was a bit nervous," she said.

"In the right moments," Shvedova explained, "she did the right things."

That included a running, stretching cross-court backhand lob that Shvedova let drop behind her for a winner.

"I was surprised it went in. Maybe it was wind or something," Shvedova said. "Very weird."

Richard Williams' take?

"Actually," he said, "it was luck, to be honest with you."

His daughter acknowledged she "had no intention of hitting that shot. ... I thought I was going for a backhand down the line, and somehow it ended up being a cross court lob. That was not in the plans whatsoever."

She'll play Kvitova in a quarterfinal between the only past Wimbledon champions left in the women's draw, now that Sharapova is gone. Williams is 2-0 against Kvitova, both straight-set victories in 2010, at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

"She's obviously a great grass-court player, as well as I am," Williams said. "I'll be ready."

Vote set on writing bank settlement into Calif law

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) ? California will become the first state to write into law much of the national mortgage settlement negotiated this year with the nation's top five banks, if state lawmakers approve wide-ranging legislation on Monday.

Majority Democrats say they have the votes to send the homeowner protection package to Gov. Jerry Brown despite opposition from business and lending organizations.

The legislation would require large lenders to provide a single point of contact for homeowners who want to discuss loan modifications. It would prohibit lenders from foreclosing while the lenders consider homeowners' request for alternatives to foreclosure. And it would let California homeowners sue lenders to stop foreclosures or seek monetary damages if the lender violates state law.

The protections would benefit all California homeowners, not just those whose mortgages are with the five banks that signed the national settlement in February. And many of the restrictions would become permanent, while those in the nationwide agreement will end after five years.

Attorney General Kamala Harris said the compromise legislation negotiated with lawmakers "is going to bring transparency and fairness to California homeowners in a way they've never had before."

She helped negotiate the February settlement that requires Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo & Co., Citigroup Inc. and Ally Financial Inc. to pay $18 billion in penalties to California homeowners.

Key portions of her original proposal to write the settlement into state law were stalled by opposition from some of her fellow Democrats in the Legislature, until the right to sue banks and other measures were significantly narrowed.

Lenders' organizations joined by the California Chamber of Commerce said in a letter to lawmakers on Friday that the final legislation is an improvement, though they still fear it will "encourage frivolous litigation" by borrowers who cannot realistically afford to stay in their homes.

"The point is ... not to launch an avalanche of lawsuits. What it's really about is having some meaningful accountability to ensure that servicers follow the rules," said Paul Leonard, director of the California office of the Center for Responsible Lending, a consumer group.

Previous efforts have repeatedly failed to clear the Legislature. Leonard said the national mortgage settlement and Harris' involvement are likely to make the difference this year.

No universal approach to wooing Hispanic voters

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) ? In New Mexico, Tomasita Maestas says she will pick the presidential candidate who has the best plan to fix education and the economy.

In Arizona, Mexican immigrant Carlos Gomez backs Republican Mitt Romney because he's more conservative on social issues than his Democratic opponent.

In Miami, Colombia native Luna Lopez probably will vote for President Barack Obama now that he's decided to halt the deportation of many illegal immigrants brought to the United States as children.

The reasons that Hispanics give for choosing between Obama and Romney are just as diverse as the countries that they or their ancestors once called home, suggesting there's no one-size-fits-all approach to courting the nation's fastest-growing minority group.

The Latino vote isn't monolithic or, really, a voting bloc. It includes a range of people with varying opinions. Among them are Republican-leaning Cubans in Florida, new Mexican immigrants and longtime descendants of Spanish settlers in the Southwest, and Democratic-tilting Puerto Ricans in the East.

Immigration policy would seem to be the natural top issue for these voters, except that nearly two-thirds of Hispanics are born in the U.S. Their priorities are the same as the general population ? jobs, the economy, education and health care.

"We need to see more jobs here, that's my No. 1 priority and what I want to hear about," says Stefan Gonzalez, an almost 18-year-old from Denver, whose heritage includes Spanish, Mexican and Native American roots. Gonzalez, who works in a suburban Denver pawn shop, says he plans to vote for Obama this fall.

In Albuquerque, Ernest Gurule, an 84-year-old whose ancestors settled New Mexico in 1580, says his main issue is the federal health care plan upheld by the Supreme Court last week, and that he'll back Obama in part because of it. Also, the Democrat, adds: "It's too expensive to change horses midstream."

Democrats and Republicans are in a fierce race to figure out how to best reach Hispanics.

In the short term, these voters could decide the outcome in Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida and elsewhere. The long-term stakes are even bigger because Hispanics are projected to account for roughly 30 percent of the population by 2050, doubling in size and, potentially changing the national political landscape.

Like most minorities, Hispanics traditionally have leaned Democratic. But a recent Pew Research poll indicates that Hispanics also are the fastest-growing group of independent voters, with 46 percent now shunning a party label compared with 31 percent six years ago. Such results only underscore how diverse Hispanics are and the challenges for the political parties.

"It is going to be a very hard fight to win," says Jennifer Korn, the executive director of the Republican-based Hispanic Leadership Network, which was established to help bring more Hispanic voters to the GOP. "The more they assimilate, the more sophisticated they become and that's when they start dividing between parties."

For now at least, Obama and his Democrats have an advantage, with the latest polls showing 65 percent of Hispanics back Obama and 25 percent back Romney.

The Democrats' campaign has worked to keep that edge, helped by Obama's new immigration policy and the Supreme Court's decision to side with the administration on most of an Arizona law that many immigrants viewed as overly harsh.

His campaign has spent the past year setting up offices with grassroots outreach to Hispanic communities in the Southwest, as well as in important states such as Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Florida.

Mindful of the diversity among Hispanics, Obama has custom-tailored his outreach, including tweaking Spanish dialect for different regions.

For instance, in Florida the campaign has two distinct outreach plans. One focuses on Cuban-Americans in Miami who tend to lean Republican and are less concerned about immigration; the other speaks to traditionally Democratic Puerto Ricans, who are U.S. citizens from birth, as well as new immigrants from Central America.

Obama also has promoted the new health law, which can resonate in states such as New Mexico, which has one of the highest rates of uninsured in the country.

Romney has plenty of ground to make up after a bruising primary season filled with tough rhetoric that even Republicans acknowledge turned off many Hispanics. He recently established a Hispanic advisory group that includes top elected Republican Hispanics.

During the primaries, the former Massachusetts governor pledged to veto legislation, known as the DREAM Act, that would give a path to citizenship to young immigrants who came to the United States illegally as children but have since attended school or served in the military. He has since toned down his anti-immigration stance, which included self-deportation, telling a Hispanic leadership gathering in Miami that he would address illegal immigration "in a civil but resolute manner."

Alexandra Franceschi, a spokeswoman for the Republican National Committee's Hispanic effort, made clear that the GOP outreach will focus broadly on the economy. "Hispanics are Americans and are facing the same issues as everyone else, chronically high unemployment, lower pay and rising health care costs," she said.

Republicans have noted that under Obama, the Hispanic unemployment rate is higher than the national average. And Hispanics' median household income fell 7 percent between 2000 and 2010, from $43,100 to $40,000, according to the Pew Hispanic Center.

What drives Hispanics to vote depends on who's asked.

Lopez, a 20-year-old new citizen and college student from Colombia, cites Obama's policy shift on deportation as reason she's likely to pick him when she casts her first vote in the country.

"The issue didn't directly affect me, but I have many family members and friends who it did," she said.

In Arizona, Gomez, a 43-year-old priest who immigrated to Phoenix 15 years ago, backed Obama's policy change. But Gomez says immigration isn't his priority because "immigrants will continue coming across the border no matter what we do." He says he's voting for Romney because, like him, the Republican opposes gay marriage and abortion rights.

In Albuquerque, Maestas, a 37-year-old mother and office manager, is focused intently on pocketbook issues. Immigration, she says, is only important to "a certain point" because "If you can't take care of your own, how are you going to take care of others?"

Remains of 2nd person found in Colo. fire wreckage

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) ? Making slow but steady progress against a wildfire that has killed at least two people, authorities hoped for continued favorable weather and asked for patience from thousands of evacuees who fled encroaching flames that destroyed nearly 350 homes.

A second body was found Friday in the rubble of a home where another person was found dead earlier. Officials, who were searching each charred lot for more possible victims, have not yet released identifications. Police Chief Pete Carey said fewer than 10 people altogether were unaccounted for.

The 26-square-mile blaze ? one of several wildfires burning across the West ? was reported to be 25 percent contained - up from 15 percent Thursday.

Evacuation orders were lifted for some of the more than 30,000 people forced from their homes earlier this week, but restrictions remained on neighborhoods with the most damage.

"We're just pleading with people to have some patience while we work through this, this is a very stubborn situation we're dealing with," said Colorado Springs Fire Chief Richard Brown.

Colorado Springs police said they were swamped with calls from people asking when they could return to their homes.

There were plans to let people whose residences burned take weekend bus trips to the affected neighborhoods to take a look, but they would not be allowed to leave the vehicles.

After growing explosively earlier in the week, the Colorado Springs fire gained no ground overnight, authorities reported Friday. And the weather was clear and mostly calm, a welcome break from the lightning and high wind that drove the flames.

Exhausted firefighters fresh off the front lines described the devastation in some neighborhoods and the challenges of battling such a huge blaze, now the most destructive in Colorado history.

"It looks like hell. I would imagine it felt like a nuclear bomb went off. There was fire everywhere. Everything had a square shape to it because it was foundations," said Rich Rexach, who had been working 12-hour days since Tuesday, when flames swept through neighborhoods in this city of more than 400,000 people 60 miles south of Denver.

President Barack Obama toured the stricken areas Friday after issuing a disaster declaration for Colorado that frees up federal funds. He thanked firefighters and other emergency workers, saying: "The country is grateful for your work. The country's got your back."

As residents waited anxiously to see what was left of their homes, police reported several burglaries in evacuated areas, along with break-ins of cars packed with evacuees' possessions outside hotels. Carey said Friday a person wearing protective fire gear in an evacuated area was arrested on charges of impersonating a firefighter and influencing a public official.

Community leaders began notifying residents Thursday that their homes were destroyed. Many lost almost everything.

"The blanket that was on my bed when I grew up, a bunch of things my mother had made," said Rick Spraycar, listing what he lost when his house in the hard-hit Mountain Shadows subdivision burned down. "It's hard to put it into words. Everything I owned. Memories."

For Ernie Storti the pain of knowing that his was one of a handful of homes spared in his neighborhood was hard.

"Our home was standing, and everything south of us was gone," he said as tears streamed down his face outside a Red Cross Shelter where he had met with insurance agents.

Authorities were still trying to figure out what caused the fire. They said conditions were improving and they hoped experts would soon be able to work to determine a cause.

More than 1,000 personnel and six helicopters were fighting the fire.

All eight Air Force firefighting planes from four states will be at Colorado Springs' Peterson Air Force Base Saturday and available to fight the fire, marking the first time the entire fleet has been activated since 2008, Col. Jerry Champlin said.

Among the fires elsewhere in the West:

? Idaho: At least 60 homes near Pocatello, Idaho, burned in a fast-moving wildfire that started Thursday evening. The blaze covered more than 1? square miles. Officials said it was human-caused but gave no details.

? Utah: Residents of nearly a thousand homes in Herriman, just southwest of Salt Lake City, were under an evacuation order Saturday after a wildfire burned through the area, destroying at least four houses and several other structures, authorities said. Fire crews appeared to have the 350-acre Rose Crest fire at bay Friday evening.

A 70-square-mile wildfire in Utah's Sanpete County destroyed at least 160 structures, more than 50 of them primary homes. A similar sized blaze in Utah was threatening about 75 structures.

? Wyoming: A day of hot, dry, windy weather kept firefighters from making much headway Friday on two large, out-of-control wildfires. The third large wildfire in Medicine Bow National Forest in the southeast part of the state quickly overwhelmed initial firefighting efforts and forced the evacuation of about 100 homes, officials said Friday.

? Montana: Residents of eastern and central Montana who evacuated due to wildfires are returning to find neighborhoods scorched and many houses reduced to piles of ash. Fire officials said Friday that 70 homes burned in the 20,000-acre Dahl fire south of Roundup. At least two dozen structures were reported burned in a 270-square-mile fire in the Ashland.

Authorities battling six wildfires in Utah said Colorado was taking most of the available fire crews, leaving them short-handed.

Utah fire commander Cheto Olais said leaders at one Utah blaze had requested about 200 additional firefighters but will probably get no more than 20. "A lot of assets are going to Colorado," Olais said.

"We're strapped nationally," he told The Associated Press. "There's only so many firefighters, and they're already out in the field."

Mexican election could return old rulers to power

MEXICO CITY?? The party that ruled Mexico for most of the past century looked set for a comeback on Sunday as voters chose a new president, seeking an end to a brutal drug war and weak economic growth that have worn down the ruling conservatives.

Twelve years after the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) lost power, its candidate, Enrique Pena Nieto, led by between 8 and 11 percentage points in exit polls released by three of Mexico's main television networks after voting ended on Sunday night.

Tainted by corruption, electoral fraud and occasional bouts of brutal authoritarianism during its 71 years in power, the PRI was voted out in 2000. It has bounced back, helped by the economic malaise and a tide of lawlessness that have plagued Mexico under the conservative National Action Party, or PAN.

Pena Nieto, a youthful-looking former governor of the State of Mexico, has established himself as the new face of the PRI with the aid of favorable media coverage led by Mexico's most powerful broadcaster, Televisa.

Leftist rival Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was in second place with Josefina Vazquez Mota of PAN, trailing in third.

Vazquez Mota said she recognized that voting trends in Sunday's election did not favor her, but stopped short of conceding defeat.

Preliminary official results were due in the next few hours.

Long lines of voters snaked around city blocks in the capital. The first national exit polls were expected when voting ends in the westernmost part of the country at 8 p.m.

"It's time for the PRI to return. They're the only ones who know how to govern," said Candelaria Puc, 70, preparing to vote in Cancun with the help of a friend because she cannot read or write.

"The PRI is tough, but they won't let the drug violence get out of control," she added, speaking in a mix of Mayan and Spanish.

After ending the PRI's rule in 2000, the PAN raised hopes high. But years of weak growth and the death of more than 55,000 people in drug-related killings since 2007 have eroded its popularity.

Violence continued in the days before Sunday's vote.

In the Pacific beach resort of Acapulco, one of the cities most affected by the drug war, four people were killed on Saturday, two of them tortured and beheaded, a hallmark of drug-related killings, Guerrero state police said.

The PRI mayoral candidate in the city of Marquelia, about 40 miles from Acapulco, was kidnapped by an armed group, prompting a protest of his supporters that closed a highway for five hours, a party leader said.

Pena Nieto's closest challenger in pre-election polling was former Mexico City Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the front-runner for much of the 2006 race. Lopez Obrador ultimately lost by half a point to President Felipe Calderon of PAN and refused to accept defeat.

Claiming fraud, he led massive protests in the capital for weeks, bringing much of Mexico City to a standstill and alienating even some of his supporters.

Though his campaign bid surged late on when a wave student-led opposition to the PRI boosted his ratings, polls suggest Lopez Obrador will fall short of the 35 percent of votes he won in 2006.

"This is no time for the country to go in reverse," a relaxed Lopez Obrador said of the PRI before voting.

Final polls showed Pena Nieto winning 40 percent to 45 percent of the vote, Lopez Obrador close to 30 percent with Vazquez Mota not far behind. Gabriel Quadri, a fourth candidate competing for a smaller party, is expected to pick up a few percent. The one with the most votes wins, with no need for a second round.

Pena Nieto has seized on Calderon's failure to tame cartels with a military-led offensive, arguing the PRI's experience in power means it best understands how to restore peace to Mexico and reinvigorate the economy.

FEAR OF FRAUD
Lopez Obrador has in recent weeks sounded alarms about possible vote fraud, raising concerns he might call new street protests if he loses again.

His belligerence after 2006 exposed tensions within the main leftist grouping, the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), although it has rallied behind him again for this campaign.

Though it has effective and popular control in Mexico City, the PRD's record outside the capital has been tainted by allegations of corruption and incompetence.

"It is important to stop the PRI coming back to power," said 22-year-old Rafael Peralta, a first-time voter. "They brutally repress protests and give handouts with conditions."

The PRI laid the foundations of the modern state with a nimble blend of politics and patronage that allowed it to appeal to labor unions and captains of industry at the same time.

The party that nationalized the oil industry in 1938 also made sweeping free-market reforms in the 1990s and signed the North American Free Trade Agreement with the United States and Canada, upholding a populist image while a small cadre of well-connected capitalists grew rich through effective oligopolies.

Mexicans eventually tired of the one-party rule that stifled dissent, rewarded loyalists and allowed widespread corruption.

The era of old-time PRI bosses known as "dinosaurs" gave way to a more democratic era under the 1994-2000 presidency of Ernesto Zedillo, who instituted reforms that allowed opposition parties to compete in a fair vote and oust the PRI.

On Sunday voters will also decide on six state governors and both houses of Congress, with gains expected for the PRI.

The legislative results will help determine whether Pena Nieto will be able to push through his plans to liberalize antiquated labor laws, improve the tax take and open up state oil giant Pemex to more private investment.

Financial investors are encouraged by Pena Nieto's reform agenda, which would be more friendly toward foreigners, and hold out hope he would promote well-educated technocrats like those who oversaw the economy during the PRI's later years in power.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama praised the coordinated response to Colorado's wildfires and said trying times bring Americans together.

Obama was in the state Friday for a firsthand look at the damage after he declared the situation a major disaster and promised federal aid. More than 30,000 people have been evacuated in what is now the most destructive wildfire in state history.

"One of the things that happens here in America is when we see our fellow citizens in trouble and having difficulty, we come together as one American family, as one community," Obama said Saturday in his weekly radio and Internet address.

The federal government has provided firefighters, fire engines, and aircraft, including 19 air tankers to assist in fighting the fires in Colorado and other Western states.

Obama's focus on the Colorado fires came at the end of an eventful week at the White House capped by Thursday's Supreme Court decision upholding Obama's health care law and congressional passage of two Obama priorities ? a highway construction bill and an extension of lower student loan rates.

Obama acknowledged that choosing the fires as the topic of his weekend address was unusual, but said it was an opportunity to focus on the problem facing the people of Colorado.

Obama emphasized the role the federal government was playing in addressing the disaster, a lesson learned from the Bush administration's widely criticized response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

"We're going to continue to make sure that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Forest Service, our military and National Guard and all the resources that we have available at the federal level are brought to bear in fighting this fire," he said.

Obama's attention to Colorado takes on added significance coming less than five months before the Nov. 6 presidential election. Colorado is an important state in Obama's contest with Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

In the Republican address, Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming took aim at Obama's health care law, arguing that it has not lived up to billing and vowing that Republicans would work to repeal it.

"Each broken promise proves that the Supreme Court's ruling did absolutely nothing to improve the president's failed health care law," he said. "It remains unworkable, unaffordable, and very unpopular."

Barrasso, an orthopedic surgeon, said Obama's signature piece of legislation will not lower the cost of health care.

He cited Chief Justice John Roberts' majority opinion that said the law's requirement to purchase insurance and the penalty it imposed on those who did not was constitutional because it is based on Congress' power to impose a tax.
